In an ongoing effort to improve customer satisfaction, the UCSB Community Service Organization (CSO) has opened a new office in the center of campus for bicycle registration! In addition to our Public Safety Building location, CSO is now located in Building 300, room 105 (south of the Old Gym and west of South Hall). This reduces the distance students have to travel for this valuable service. Building 300 is located adjacent to campus bike paths and walkways making it much safer for students travel to.
Bicycle registration is available at Building 300, Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (when classes are in session and excluding UC holidays). Our Public Safety Building offers bicycle registration Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration costs $10.00 and we only accept cash or check (made payable to the UC Regents).
Bicycle registration is required on campus per California Vehicle Code 39002. More importantly the sticker, frame stamp, bicycle information and contact information provides law enforcement the ability to verify ownership and to return your bicycle if it is ever stolen, misplaced, or impounded.
CSOs are a tangible example of UCPD community policing in action. Not only are CSOs UCSB students but they are residents and members of the community they serve. As such they are an invaluable link between the people and the police.
Bicycle registration is only one of the many CSO services. They also escort community members to and from campus and Isla Vista locations, conduct event and location security as well as providing bike and skateboard safety information.
We hope that you will come by and say hello to our CSOs in their new home! Additional information about CSO can be found on our web site at https://www.police.ucsb.edu/cso.
