On Saturday, 11/09/2019, the UCSB Police Department and the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office co-hosted the very first Restorative Justice Program in Isla Vista!
This program allows individuals who received citations in Isla Vista for an "open container of alcohol in pubic", “drinking alcohol in public”, or specific "loud noise violations" to attend a 2 hour seminar and participate in community service. Upon completion of the program, their ticket is dismissed.
UCSB PD and the SB Sheriff’s Office gave a safety presentation on the history of local policing and the challenges Isla Vista presents. UCSB’s Life of the Party (from the alcohol and drug program) guest presented on alcohol safety. The 11 student attendees and Law enforcement officers then brainstormed ways to fix various issues in the community together.
Working with the community to build partnerships and prevent crime always is always a good time!
