This is a Timely Warning regarding a crime that occurred on campus property.

On June 24, 2026, the UC Santa Barbara Police Department received a report of a fondling and stalking that occurred at West Campus, along an unnamed paved access road located between Slough Road and West Campus Lane. (Click this link to view the approximate location.) The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, around 11:30 a.m. The victim was walking on the access road when the suspect passed by on a bicycle. Over the next 15 minutes, the suspect approached the victim from behind three separate times, asking questions the first two times, and striking the victim on the buttocks the third time before fleeing. The suspect was last seen in the area of Tierra De Fortuna Park. (Click this link to view the approximate location.)

The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Middle Eastern male adult, approximately 35 years of age, approximately 5 feet 8 inches in height, with a thin build, shaved head, brown eyes, clean-shaven to scruffy facial hair, wearing a tank top or cut-off grey t-shirt, shorts, and a black backpack, and riding a bicycle. The suspect is not known to the victim.

Safety Tips

  • Perpetrators are responsible for sexual assault. Crime victims are never responsible for the behavior of perpetrators. 
  • If you start to feel concerns about a person or a situation, trust your instincts and try to remove yourself as quickly as possible from the potential threat, even if it feels awkward to leave.
  • If you are going out alone, make sure that someone knows where you are going, who you will be with, and when you expect to return.
  • If you think someone is at risk of assault or abuse, you should consider it an emergency and act to support that person. You can call the police or ask for help from other people, intervene directly if safe, or create a distraction to help remove the potential victim from the situation.
  • If you feel you are being followed, try to get the attention of people nearby, run/walk to a well-lit and/or more populated area, and call 9-1-1 to ask for help.

UCPD shares these Safety Tips while recognizing that perpetrators, and not the victims or survivors, are solely responsible for their actions.

In compliance with the Clery Act, Timely Warnings are issued by the UC Santa Barbara Police Department when certain (Clery Act) crimes occurring on campus property, properties controlled by campus-affiliated organizations, or public property immediately adjacent to campus are determined to be a serious or continuing threat to the campus community. Timely Warnings are intended to prevent similar crimes and to provide information that will assist community members in protecting themselves.
